Something happened at church today and I couldn’t help but stare.  During the closing song, a little boy walked into the aisle and began imitating the worship leader with his best air guitar.  As the music intensified, so did the little boy’s mini worship session.  He was catching the attention of many congregation members.  He just kept playing his guitar, not giving a care in the world of what others thought.  I thought to myself “Man, what it must be like to be like an innocent child, without a care in the world.”  It made me think about all of the times I held back in praising the Lord.

Why do we hold back?  How is it that we can be so bold on social media but don’t take advantage in those real life moments when it really matters?  I truly feel that Satan is so crafty (see Genesis 3:1) that he fills our mind with “what-ifs”.  What if I share my faith and my friends laugh at me?  What if I share my testimony and someone proclaims they don’t agree with anything I say?  What if I’m uncool?  What if I mess up?

Or what if you lead someone to a relationship with Jesus?  What if someone sees that fire within you and wants to know how they can get that same fire?

Jesus gives us hope in the Great Commission:

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of age.”

Matthew 28:18-20, NIV

Did you catch that last part?  Jesus will be with us!  We don’t have to worry if we make a fool out of ourselves!  The awkwardness we sometimes feel now will not matter in light of eternity; carry out your obedience to the Lord.  Be bold in your pursuit of Him!  Go ahead and play your air guitar!

I wish I could go back and tell that little boy thank you.  His boldness fanned the flame within me and he had no idea he even did so.  How can we, as adults, help to fan that flame in others?
